Some crankshafts for automatic transmission engines had a slightly oversize hole where the pilot bushing should go. That big bushing is for using those cranks in stick shift engines. Pounding the big bushing into the smaller hole will misalign it, or shrink the inside hole and make it grab the pilot shaft.
