I had problems with mine but someone else had solved my problem. THe needle was gone! So, I ordered the vinyl refacing kit from JCarter and refaced it myself. I took the new needle to a nearby place that does guage restoration and paid him $135 for a new head, put on all the decals and test it. All is well...but at a price. (last year the needle was 3.50, the reface kit $13)
If the china stuff was decent its almost as economical, notice I didn't say cheap, to just buy the "face with new head" and use your bezel. In the end its "6 of one, half dozen of the other".
I do know my restoration guy for years and the good thing is if I have a problem, and sometimes I do, I just drive over there and he fixes me right up.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile
