This may NOT apply but on some early model trucks the drum had a small slit in it to stick a flat guage in it to set the shoes.

Now, I'm with the other guys. I usually just lock the wheel down and then back off until I "like" what I feel and then do the others hoping to get the same "feel". Most of the time it works!

EDIT: OOPS, sorry. I didn't realize your IHC was a bigger truck than the 1/2ton. But the "feel" adjustment works on bigger to.
