Don't know where you are on this but I was in the same boat about a year ago with my '48 3/4 ton. Managed to get Jim Carter rear drums and everything works fine for what I do which includes hauling quite a bit. Definitely won't stop like discs, but I find them to work fine. The only thing with the drums (at least on mine) is that there is a bit of a gap between the brake baking plate and the drum because of the way they are machined (slightly different then my stock units). But unless you're going in a lot of mud and water they seem fine. At least no I have a parking brake again.
