With Grigg as my sensei, I am just starting a diesel upgrade (4-53T) to my '48 Chevy 2-ton (SWB dump) and using his truck as a pattern. Not doing the air starter, though ...
I'll be posting a blog in the Tech Tips Project Trucks section when we start actually putting stuff together. I'm starting with another SWB 2-ton frame so I can use the truck while we do all the driveline mods. Then, when the frame is ready, we'll just swap the sheet metal and the dump and be done.
It is already a lot of work! Just assembling the parts! But so far, so fun! If you go the Detroit Diesel route, you need to take a deep breath first -- I'm still wondering what I'm getting myself into.
