Another option to improve the brakes on your 3/4-ton would be to swap to 1-ton brakes. You end up with bigger drums and more shoe, so you have more stopping power. The problems finding parts are as bad if not worse.

What part of Washington are you in? I'm on Bainbridge Island near Seattle and am currently building a 1-ton for pulling a heavily loaded trailer.
