My '46 has a '54 235 in it. It's a much more roadworthy engine, although it's obviously not original. Frankly, unless you're a purist, the only reason to rebuild the old splasher is for a correct restoration. If you're going to drive it, the upgrade will make a big difference. It's also nicer to have a bit more horsepower if you eventually change to a higher geared rear to get better road speed. As I get it, the '54 engine (or '53 Powerglide) is the holy grail - straight bolt in with no water pump change needed. If that's wrong I'm sure someone will correct me.
