I used a heat gun to soften the new tape. I also used a litle WD40. And of course, trimmed off the excess when done. I did all the work on a soft blanket, on the floor. I used a soft blow mallet to work the frame onto the glass. Worked out great... didn't know about the oil trick.. makes sense though.
