The pan off my 1947 Hi Tork 235 has '235' stamped right into the side. There is a raised area, midway along the pan, passenger side, measures 2" x 6". Right in the middle of this area is stamped in about one inch letters, 235.
Another point, the early 235s used same head as the 216 motors.
