On one of mine I was able to get underneath it with the bed down. I used a suction gun to squirt the fluid into the cylinder.
If you do decide to do it in the raised position, be sure to do what the others have said, and leave the plug out the first time you let it back down. Otherwise, it's possible to blow the seals out of it. And that would not be good!!!
