It seems like it's either loosing it or using it. Your sleuthing would lead one to believe it isn't using it, but I wonder if it could be loosing it and it's leaving no tell tail trail.
Rare, but not unheard of is the leaking engine that only drips when hot and running, and does so in a fashion that leaves no trace or track on any part of the undercarriage.
Flying down the country road, the hurricane slings the drips into oblivion in a effort to frustrate the Man-from-Sandwich.
