Good question. The syncrho that is built-in is actually first gear and it only operates when upshifting into second. If you are shifting from third down into second, then that ring is easily replaced like any other conventional transmission. Our rebuild kit should have you covered here.

You always shift from NEUTRAL into second, no matter which gear you were in before. Look at the 48-51 shop manual, pages 7-15 to 7-17. The operation is explained in much detail there.
