After reading all the postings. I still don't know if I have a HO72 or a HO52, but needless to say it doesn't matter. I still either have a 4.57 or 4.11 gear. Either way it's bad. The best I can hope for is a 3.90 with a newer carrier. My question- Can a 14 bolt or Dana 60 rear be mounted under the 54 without it being too wide? I'm looking for a 3.73 or 3.50 gear that seems to be my best option.
