Heres a picture of where my oil lines originated from and after my conversion from compression fittings to inverted flares in my COE.
http://s114.photobucket.com/albums/...er/?action=view¤t=PICT0010.jpgYou should see a 3 way brass block screwed in to the front engine directly above and to the right of the main pulley (facing engine). 1 line goes to the back of the oil gauge, 1 goes directly into the head, and 1 goes into the oil filter. The return from the oil filter goes through a hollow bolt that is used to attach the oil pump to the block (or any convienent drain back to the oil pan). The GMC Master Parts Manual shows this but not in high detail.
A VERY important thing to keep in mind is that there are 2 fittings used that restrict the amount of oil flow into the filter and into the head. I cant remember the exact size of the restriction. If you do not have these the oil pump will flood the head with oil and leave the bottom end dry and destroy your engine in a short amount of time. I ended up taking 2 fittings and soldering a gob in them and drilling them back out to the proper size of restriction.
By the way my oil filter is not in the stock position for a conventional truck. Hope that helps.
Good luck, Jeff
