Take the motor out Take it apart AND fix whatever it is.

I'm not trying to be mean or rude but till you do these steps it will not be right

It's sad that everything seems to be falling on your project here but a Pontiac is not going to be much better unless it's in a GMC truck HONEST

I bet that if you strip the motor you'll find something none of us has addressed as the problem
