After numerous posts and repeated inqueries, you still haven't said what you are starting with and what you wanted to put in there.
You had a 292 and a transmission? Could it be a 3spd?
Is the '79 4spd a truck SM 465 or is it the A833 OD 4spd? The A833 would be a lot better than the 3spd, but you'll need a cast iron bellhousing for a SM465 from a '68 or newer that still used the housing mounts.
If the '63 has a lot lower rear gear than the '79 had, the OD trans would be an easy solution. You have the trans.
