Out here they still work for do-it-yourself motor homes,hunting rigs,party vans,etc. If the drivetrain is bad,they also make excellent storage units and workshops. (water tight roof,interior lighting and relatively well insulated)I know a guy who fixed up the front third of one like a little apartment and made the rest into a well equipped shop to work on his off-road bikes at the races.(He often makes a few bucks extra fabricating parts for other riders.)
I've seen 'em set up with swing apart rear walls and ramps to carry small race cars too.
One of the local truck shops here used to have a '58 Chevy bus with a Pontiac 389,4 speed and 2 speed axle,set up for road service. The mechanics could do an in-frame on an OTR truck right there on the roadside.
Old busses are also very good as moving vans.
