I've done it.
Unfortunately, My truck is a '46 and my experiences won't be relevant to your case as my wiper motors live above the windshield.
It was interesting getting the old unit out, but it went together pretty easily. The wiring is an interesting prospect, especially since the windshield is tarred shut.
