I have an 87 full size 1/2 ton 4X4 with 3.73 gears and a 700R4 trans and 31 inch tires. Many of the newer ones come with 31-32 inch tires as stock with the same gears and tranny such as 285/16 or 17 inch tires. I had a good running 350 TBI that burned no oil and ran smooth. I am the second owner of the truck. I love this truck so I opt for a modest built 250 for better economy. They, the shop, bored it .040 over, .010 on the bearings, balanced it, put in 1.84 intakes instead of the 1.74s size plus ARP rod bolts. The cam is a 240 cam from Comp and the valves clatter even after adjustment. Supposed to have about .060 more lift than stock or there about. I have the paper on it. One is quite loud. Less than 200 miles on it. Had a 600 Holley, waaaaay too big, but its what I was told to put on it and it ran too rich even after jetting it down. Adjusted the timing and such, new distributor, total MSD ingition system including the red wires. I removed the 4 bbl which had lousy power anyhow and I'm still getting about 8-8 1/2 city and 11 hwy with the stock one bbl that I rebuilt. My friend does that bad with his 454 with MUCH more power. Been at this 41 years. This is far worse than the 350 V8. Everything is new on it. It can't get out of its own way. Does not like hills. It slows down when it sees one. The idle is so so. Supposed to be noticable according to Comp. Please help!!! Should I have put in a 292 instead or go back to the 350? It weighs about 5300 lbs actual weight. Should I have put on a smaller 4 bbl like a 450 - 500 cfm or is it just too small for this rig? Any info would help. Thanks guys! Henry
