Trever, for what it is worth, all of your troubles may not be fixed by replacing one part. It is very possible that the timing could be causing the back firing and the missing, while the carb is causing the truck to want to die on depression of the throttle. I firmly feel that you need to replace your points and condenser. A chain is only as good as its weakest link. You should also check the valve lash. A tight valve can cause the backfires that you are reporting.
