MikeE:
1. Performed all the checks to ensure that I was getting spark to all the plugs.
2. Removed #1 spark plug, removed dist. cap., loosened distributor lockdown screw.
3. Using remote starter, noted when compression hit #1 plug hole, noted rotor location when this happened.
4. Set plug wires accordingly 1,5,3,6,2,4
5. Rechecked point gap.
6. Put dist. cap on, #1 spark plug back.
7. Using remote starter, engaged starter
8. Nothing happened
8. Slowly rotated distributor clockwise,and eventually it fired.
Now why that worked I don't know. If someone can tell me why, it would give me a better understanding of the ignition system/distributor.
