I converted my 3/4 ton '82 lwb Chevy to duals a couple years ago. I got rid of the factory 14 bolt with 4.10 gearing and placed a totally rebuilt Dana 70 dually rear with 3.73 gearing and positraction. I figured the truck I started with was worthy as it had a "j" code 6.2 diesel and a SM465 with the granny low. This truck will tow your house off it's foundation. The main advantage to the dually from my experience is the added stability and braking control when TOWING. A true dually rear like the Dana weighs in almost as much as the engine and tranny, and along with all that extra rubber makes it difficult for a trailer to push the back end of the truck around on curves or while turning. As I reside in Florida I cant speak much on the issue of snow, but the one ride I took to PA last January driving in several inches of snow with the posi and all that weight holding the rear end on the ground was no problem.
