Drain all oils and fluids. I placed a 3/4 inch peice of plywood to the pallet for a solid floor, I shipped one sitting on the bellhousing side of the motor (fan blade in the air) and bolted it to the pallet that way. Then I made a wood frame around the pallet and then closed it in with cardboard. I threw a few handfulls of sawdust on the bottom to soak up any residual oils/fluids tha might leak out.
If I had to do it again I think I would weld up an engine cradle for it and ship it like the machine shops do for small blocks.
I also sent mine through a machine shop that I was aquainted with. They got a better shipping rate than I could on my own. Saved $100 or better. That is a pretty heavy motor to ship.
