VIN numbers as we know them were not used until about 1978 or so...
Prior to that, the serial # and sometimes, the engine number were used for the title.
For my 46, my state added zeros or the letter O on the front end of the serial number to get the correct number of characters for a modern day VIN. The number plate on the truck remains unchanged.
