Brake fluid has a certain "feel" to it, quite distinctive from oil. Try a bit from a bottle or the master cylinder to see. Brake fluid will also mix with water, to some degree.
If what you have is evaporating quickly, I'd suspect rusty water, blood 8-), or something weird. What does the other wheel look like? Are you low on brake fluid?
