I just put oil on the threads of head bolts. Threadlock on intake/exhaust manifold bolts and permatex #2 on anything involving oil or water, ie valve cover, waterpump, timing cover, oil pan...
Don't permatex both sides of the valve cover, just the cover side. You'll have to pull the cover to adjust the valves after you've broken the engine in.
