A flat flywheel resurface in my area is $35 clams. The pilot bearing install should be done with a driver that fits the ID and is shouldered. If you deform it, and don't notice it until you try and stab the tranny, it is not fun.
The hole in the crank snout will be bushed and the same size as the nose on the input shaft. If it isn't...there is no pilot bearing installed. The difference between the two diameters should be very easy to see with the eye.
