I would look for a shop manual for the year of your truck.
If the engine is not the original model, then look for the shop manual for the truck that DID have that engine in it, as well as the one for the year of your truck. Ditto on other parts.
The shop manual will tell you pretty much everything you could ever want to know about what goes where and why in your engine. (At least, mine does). Tranny, Drivetrain, Brakes, Electrical, and Ignition too.
