The Government/Big Brother is displaying its full intention (to those of us paying attention) that they do intend to legislate us out of anything older than ten years old. To include all customs, rods, antiques, and the like. They want to make it incredibly difficult (then impossible) to register these cars for street use of any kind. Assuming even their possession is allowed, they'd be allowed only as a display vehicle or museum piece that's permenantly disabled, like weapons on vintage military vehicles are currently. Given the current horrid state of our Federal and State governments, local land use and zoning laws, unfunded EPA maandates, and the like, should the above statements be considered as mere paranoia, or a portent of things to come?

Look at how the SUV has been demonized in the past five or so years. Gun owners and cigarette smokers have endured the wrath of the government "do-gooders" for years. Now, it's the car owner and the fat guy. The nanny/police state is ready to save you from yourself, damned be the costs!!! Or the consequences! Think of a guy in a bad suit, asking "May I see your papers, please?"

Back to my initial statement. Nearly all vehicles built since around 2000 have the OBD-II diagnostics, which allow not only the dealer, but law enforcement, rental companies and others to see what your car has been doing and where you've been, how fast you're going, etc. Any "On-Star" equipped vehicle can be tracked with or without the owner's permission, even if you don't subscribe to the service! There is legislation in the British Parliament that would require any new car sold to be equipped with the technology allowing remote sensors to disable your car if you speed, dispatch a wrecker to your disabled car (you pay twice, surprise!), send you a ticket electronically, and debit your bank account instantly for the fine! Wow, who needs a court of law??? Can't do that on an "old" car, or a kit, rod, etc, can you?? The scary thing is, people actually WELCOME this because of the ubiquitous "public good"!!! Think street light cameras don't invade your privacy??? In London, the average person appears on security cameras 325 times per day; more if they drive into the city!!!

Think Big Brother is bad now??? Say nothing, kick back, think "that'll never happen here in the USA!", and relax. eek :mad:
