In Montana, any vehicle over 10 years old can be permanently registered for a small extra fee. And yes, they do require 2 plates to register, but only rear displayed on YOM. The highway patrol does give waivers for only having one plate, which I have been approved by the captain, now just waiting on the docs before I register it. He said he can approve newer vehicle singles with certain ones not having hardware to mount front plate. He did ask for a pic of the front of my truck, which doesn’t have plate mounting hardware. It’s his discretion, but it seems that he is much more lenient with older YOM requests, especially in a small ranching county with 75 year old truck plates. I think with the condition of the plate, it was tacked in the barn 75 years ago, only slapping the rear on. Check your state to see if they offer waivers for singles.
