I just looked up 1949 Colorado license plates. They're pretty nice looking - black with yellow numbers and words and yellow border around the plate.

There are a lot of good looking ones currently for sale on ebay. Unfortunately, Colorado requires two plates so you have to buy a set of two. There's a really nice set that looks almost brand new for $44.00 OBO. I'd buy it right now if I lived out there.
