My recollection from restoring the instrument cluster on Sparky is that is was the ivory color. I searched through my photos and apparently didn’t capture a photo to prove it. I don’t think color will matter as far as the lighting is concerned since the instruments nest closely around the bezels.
As for abrasive choices, easy does it. Maybe a 0000 steel wool would be best? It might be slow going, but likely prevent deep scratches that would need more effort to repair.
