Charles - If you do decide to put it in hibernation, be sure whatever you cover it with can "breath". Don't want to trap any moisture/condensation which will cause numerous problems. Also may want to consider some pest management devices. Mice can get in where you least expect them and they will want to build nests and eat lots of stuff you don't want them near.
