Good idea on the relay feeding the distributor, you could keep the whole harness in stock form, plus pulling the relay would make a pretty good no start security feature.
The smaller HEI's are a modified unit from late model S10's, I'am not familiar with them. I like the older big cap four pin module versions. Both are the same principle and do the same thing, but don't interchange parts.
