Punch - Your block date casting code "J298" decodes as J = October, 28 = 28th day, 8 = 1938, if the Canadian casting date codes match with US code info. The later casting date could (maybe) mean it is a replacement engine as we have found in some later year engines. Perhaps someone with more knowledge of the earlier engines has some info that might confirm or refute this info?

I can't find anywhere in your previous posts on what the engine serial number is??? Can you post more pics of your engine so we can try and better ID it?
