I was heading to a BBQ with some car and truck fans in my '50 3100 with a 235 and a Carter YF2100 and lost git up and go trying to go 50 MPH or more.
I pulled out the choke until I found a sweet spot and got most of my power back. I pushed the cholke back in when I came to stops so that I wouldn't soot up my spark plugs.
The choke method worked fine the rest of the way to the party and all the way home which was fifty miles.
I figured that there was dirt in the main jet, since pulling the choke knob forced gas to be sucked from somewhere else in the carburetor.
I took it apart and found a 1/4" long skinny piece of rubber in the main jet hole nearly plugging it up completely.
That small rubber piece came off of the accelerator pump shaft seal.
If I would have had an automatic choke instead of the manual choke, I wouldn't have ever made it home that day.
