My 46 2 speed diff works the same way, only instead of the springs pulling it into gear when there's slack in the drive train, the vacuum does. It down shifts a lot smoother then the tranny does! Mongo's Garage has some very cool reproduction stickers for shifting speeds!
Thanks Chris. Mine shifts much easier and smoother than the 4 speed also now that everything has started to loosen up.
