Once upon a time- - - - -long ago- - - -I used to make and sell a kit to accurately drill and tap a crankshaft snout, and it included an ACME thread balancer installer with a Torrington bearing thrust collar, all for the princely sum of $75.00. I finally had to give it up- - - - -even with a 2-page step by step instruction sheet to go by, people just couldn't seem the figure out how to use it! I've probably drilled and tapped a hundred crankshafts, all freehand, and never had a problem doing it.
