The shift box is a very simple device- - - -just two lever arms with slots in them, and a round torque tube with tabs that engage the slots in the shift arms. Four screws hold the box together. While you've got it apart realigning everything, check for wear, and draw file the upper housing if necessary to eliminate any vertical slop. The diecast housing has a bad habit of wearing egg shaped and creating sloppy linkage movement.
