3 Speed Shifters which has great info and some pictures linked that may help you fix your problem.
Do you have a Shop Manual for your truck? If not, you can at least go read through this
1948-51 Chevy Truck Shop Manual which will help you with your 1952 as nothing relating to the shifter really changed. You will find pretty detailed info on your 3 speed shifter in Chapter 7.
