I am restoring a '52 3100 to as built condition.
Upon removing the woven ground wire from the stomp starter linkage bolt, it became clear why we have so many issues with charging and starting over time.
The ground strap sits on top of the stomp starter hinge strap. The block is under the hinge hinge strap. There is a bent piece of metal on top of the ground strap preventing the underside of the bolt from contacting the ground strap.
That makes 4 surfaces which must be kept perfectly clean to avoid starting/charging issues, especially with a six volt system, and that is just one end of one ground strap.
