He usually recommends boiling the hard parts in a bath of Dawn dishwashing liquid and water, followed by a thorough hot water rinse and LOTS of high pressure air through every passageway in the carb. Solvents and "carb cleaner" sprays simply soften the crud- - - -massive volumes of air blows it away. Once the parts are surgically clean, follow the assembly instructions and adjustments to the letter. For instance, a Rochester Quadrajet has something like 22 adjustments to make during assembly, and a lot of them will have a cumulative effect on the accuracy of the next adjustment. A Rochester B or a Carter YF isn't quite that complicated, but the same principle applies- - - - -be careful, and OCD accurate! Jerry
