Carburetor needs to be rebuilt. Same symptoms on mine before I bought and rebuilt a correct carburetor. 3 years and 8000 miles later, no problems.
Of course make sure your points etc are in perfect shape and gapped correctly. Take them out and look at them. All talk about the carb assumes your ignition system is in perfect operating condition.
