Seems to me the issue of whether a 2 speed will help your road speed would depend on what your current axle ratio is,and what the high side of the 2 speed is. That's what you need to look at first.
I've been thinking of checking out motorhomes for taller geared axles. The big problem here might be width,the motorhome axles are usually wider,as I recall.
