That's what Ford did on the supercharged 312 engine they brought out in 1957, and started eating Chevy's lunch on the drag strips. Chevy went into a Phase 10 Panic and stuffed their new 348 medium duty truck engine into the 58 Impala, with a 3 2-barrel intake on it. That engine ate valves like popcorn because it couldn't handle the RPM capability those carbs gave it! It started floating valves above 5500 RPM!
