The '49 and earlier windlace retainer functions well for the dual purpose of tucking the side of the floor mat under it.
Originally, they were not tucked under them however. The early '49s, and earlier models had a steel peg at the rear in the floor on both sides to retain the floor mat in place. These pegs were located near the two dents in the floor near the seat riser. These dents are small and remind me of a fancy shaped swimming pool.
