The 1st step I took was Bouymaker's screwdriver test.
Pushing on the solenoid made the starter turn fast.
I wouldn't call it "very fast", nor did it "whine".
I would say it "turned fast and growled" a steady lower tone.
I'll go ahead and check grounds next.
