Here in SD, they don't care what the manufacturer rates the GVW. You tell tham what you want for GVW and pay accordingly. Of course, you can't exceed your GVW. I have my bobbed M35 licensed at 8k lbs. It weighs slightly less than that. This ends up the same cost as regular license. If I had a pickup bed on it, I could license it as a pickup.
