I was thinking of putting led bulbs in it.
I would agree with Bartamos that the answer is still NO. To add a bit of detail, I recommend against LEDs in places that were designed for incandescent bulbs for a couple reasons.
The first one is that the dimming curve for LEDs is very different from traditional bulbs. The dimmer circuit you have is a rheostat that adjusts the *voltage* down. The brightness of an LED is a function of the *current*. There is a relationship between them, but the brightness will be very non-linear as you adjust the dimmer. Also, once you get to the cutoff voltage for LEDs, they will just turn off instead of getting dimmer. Personally, I like the dash lights dimmer than I can usually get then on an incandescent dimmer.
The second reason is that LEDs and incandescent bulbs have very different light emissions patterns. When you put in LEDs, you will almost always end up with hot spots where you can see the "beam" coming out of the LED instead of a nice uniform glow. I say "almost" because you can buy specially made LEDs with a more uniform distribution, but they are still not quite right and cost $$$.
A third (and somewhat lesser) reason is that automotive LEDs tend to burn out much faster than incadescent bulbs. Unless you are spending literal dollars each, they are going to be "regulated" with a current limiting resistor and 90% of the time the value of that resistor assumes a 12V supply because autos use a "12V" system. Due to the fact that 12V automotive systems actually run +/-14V, those LEDs are being overdriven and burn out much faster than they should on paper.
All that said, I love me some good LED backlit gauges. But good LED backlit gauges are designed and build to take advantage of the LEDs quirks and to operate them within thier spec range.
