Dan, I re-read your post, if your only going 5 mi., I'm with Wrenchbender, first just try filling up the master cylinder and see what happens, you have to fill it to bleed anyway. Does your parking brake work? If so you've always got that to fall back on if they give out in 4-1/2 miles.
